Create a unique and beautiful luminary for Luminata.



Intermediate class level: class participants should be familiar with the reed lantern technique. In a next step this class will teach you how to work with round reed and paper to create a special luminary of your own design Sarah will be available to help you work out the details and make sure your design will work and is doable in the 6 week timeframe. These luminaries provide lovely creative accent to your home. They need to be stored indoors. 

Course fee: includes all materials, 4 classes, plus optional open studio times before the Luminata procession. 

August 2nd, Class 1
- design your luminary and staple down the wet reed. Come with your sketch ideas. Anything you want to make is possible. Let’s discuss it.

August 3rd, Class 2 - Pull up the reed and begin to create the 3-D frame. This may take longer than one class. T

August 9th, Class 3 – Continue 3-D frame – get ready to cover your frame with cheesecloth and translucent paper.

August 17th, Class 4 - Decorate and complete your luminary. Apply details, colored tissue, and lights.

August 23rd, Class 5 - Complete your luminary. Apply details, colored tissue, and lights.

August 24th, -Open Studio -Finishing and lighting.

September 20th Luminata at Greenlake.  Bring your luminary and celebrate the Fall equinox with us!



This workshop is supported by a 4Culture Public Access Grant.  Students are asked to pay a $50 deposit to secure their spot, which will be refunded by check upon their arrival at the first workshop.  No-shows will forfeit their deposit unless they cancel 7 days in advance.  Our cancellation policy allows wait-listed students a chance to register for this class.
