Do you want to learn how to sew? Join us for Introduction to Sewing!

We will start from the very basics -- how to thread your machine, how to wind a bobbin, etc. and then make a beginner level project! If you have a machine but no idea where to start, this is the perfect class for you. When you register for the class, vote for your favorite project idea -- the most popular option will be what we make in this class!

This class is in two sessions:

Session 1 (Monday October 17 from 6-8 PM): How to use your machine! Bring your machine and we will show you how to thread it, how to wind a bobbin, and how to find a seam allowance. We will practice sewing with fabric scraps that we have on hand.
Session 2 (Monday October 24 from 6-8 PM): We will make a basic project chosen beforehand by popular vote! Vote when you register for the class. The options are: reusable gift bags, place mats, pillowcases, dinner napkins, and aprons (protect your clothes in style next time you paint at the Powerhouse!)

What to bring:

Your sewing machine (if you do not have one, sign up for one of the "use our sewing machine" slots). We highly recommend you bring your own if you have one because every sewing machine is a little different and then you'll know how to use what you have! Do not forget to bring a bobbin and needle that fit your sewing machine. Also make sure you have your power cord and if your machine has a foot pedal, bring your foot pedal!
In the first session, we will advise you on fabric for the project and you can buy some before the second session. We will also have scrap fabric on hand for you to use if you just want to make a project without picking the fabric.

This class is suitable for ages 15+. Kids must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
